I know what that feels like... I ran out of luck a long time ago when it came to scanners. I've been meaning to refill it with a new quart, but luck is about as tough to find these days as elbow grease.
I'll have to find out who all on my floor/campus has a scanner, and what the risk/reward ratio would be to break in and use/abscond the device.
